Comments Thread For: Hearn: Joshua Too Big for O2 Arena Now; Strictly Stadiums in UK

By Saturday night, Anthony Joshua will have drawn nearly 170,000 fans to his last two fights combined. That's a staggering figure, particularly when you consider that before Joshua knocked out Wladimir Klitschko his fights took place at arenas in London and Manchester that hold roughly 20,000 fans for boxing.

Biggest name & star in boxing right now.
    Hands down.

Even Calzaghe vs. Kessler "only" sold like 55,000.

AJ appeals to all of UK

There is nothing like a Wembley atmosphere!! The open stadium is like a boom box, the crowd roar inside can be heard for miles around the stadium. But Wembley is only available in the summer due to it being open roofed so it means he can’t fight as often!!.

Principality stadium has 75k seats and a retractable roof so can be used during bad weather but it doesn’t have the history or atmosphere of a Wembley stadium or Old Trafford stadium.

My guess is he will fight at Old Trafford next in march for the first time and sell out 85k seats. Then Wembley in summer and maybe even extend it to 95k or 100k seats if the council give them permission to extend the seating capacity. Then his last fight of 2018 will be in US.

Pretty impressive for a guy who's has 1 good opponent. I don't know if that says more about AJ or the UK fans. I'll say it's the fans and I hope more potential stars emerge in the UK since the iron seems to be hot right now.

              You name it.

Yes the money is bigger in the United States, but he is now way bigger than Joshua.

You idiot.. Football, Tennis, Cricket, F1 are all bigger sports than boxing in the UK.. Boxing is only 9th most popular in the UK.

We are just better fans than you guys! Even our olympic swimmers in this country get more fan support than your heavyweight champion lol a swimmer has 1 million twitter followers and Wilder only has 198k lol

This shows why boxing in the UK is booming because the fans don't bash their boxers there is a lot of hate and jealousy in the USA. Everyone is a "bum" everyone is "scared" or a "coward"
