Comments Thread For: Roach: Will Be Hard for Retired Cotto to Resist Canelo-GGG Winner

NEW YORK Freddie Roach believes Miguel Cotto is ready to retire from boxing. Cotto's trainer thinks the four-division champion from Puerto Rico will keep his word and walk away from the sport following his fight against Sadam Ali on December 2 at Madison Square Garden. Roach is just as certain Cotto will be offered a huge fight next year, either against Canelo Alvarez or Gennady Golovkin.

That's what one would think but I don't see any way Ali will help Cotto prepare for Canelo or GGG

Prepare? It's a cash out, he needs to be active to be relevant and get the fight.

This is the most absolutely ridiculous thing I've ever heard. This is the same Cotto who literally paid GGG stepaside money to not have to ever fight him. The same Cotto who weight drains everyone at 160 who has working knees. No way no how would he ever fight GGG. He's content fighting the Sadam Alis of the world. All he fights now are tuneups.

Actually it makes more sense for Cotto to fight winner of Lemieux vs BJS. All options are under GBP anyways. Let’s say Cotto were to win the strap against the winner of the 160 WBO... chances are high for Cotto to want the real final hurrah agaisnt Nelo.

Vs either one Cotto is in for a bad beating and a mid-to-late round TKO loss...
