Any German or anybody living in Germany that can tell me how big or popular this TV station is in Germany.

I cant imagine that it would be anywhere as big as ARD, ZDF or Sat.1

Nowhere near ARD and ZDF. Their deal with ARD was the *****, because it was a public channel and they got a truckload of money every year.

Sat.1 is pretty big. It mostly carries trash tv. Pretty popular.

Sport1 is ok, but not as popular as it was before. They were named DSF before and carried boxing with the Klitschkos early in their careers and international bouts. They don't braodcast sports 24/7, a lot of programming are low-key call-in gameshows, documentaries and stuff like '***y Sport Clips'. Generally it's a good deal, but probably smaller than the Sat.1 deal before. The champs are missing for the Sauerlands.

I was always amazed at how Sturm was able to get TV deals and venues without any promotional help

The Klitschko brothers, Arthur Abraham, Felix Sturm, Brähmer, Stieglitz, Sylvester, Hernandez, Huck.
Most of these guys were popular and many people tuned in to watch them fight.

The new generation are not at the same level. Feigenbutz and Zeuge arent convincing. Noel Gevor lost against Wlodarczyk and they never invested in him.

They have a couple of early prospects, who could possibly become decent fighters in the near future, but currently german boxing is in a bad state.

Yeah I remember German boxing with big shows and pretty decent names coming over.
The decisions and scorecards left a bad taste in the mouth though.

But I guess as you say is was mainly because they got a big bag of money from ARD & ZDF.

I remember when Universum went bankrupt.
That was crazy.
