  • Comments Thread For: Showtime Exec on The Impact of Mayweather vs. McGregor

It's been awhile since Showtime televised a live boxing card. Through much of the summer their focus was centered on the pay-per-view event between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor that took place on August 26th at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. There were many who derided this promotion and claimed that it damaged the credibility of the sport of boxing.

The fight must not have did that good of numbers being that Espinoza and mayweather are not shouting it out at the top of the mountain like they did with may vs PAC.

Does anyone no how much it officially did?

As a guy who listens to more combat sports news than most boxing guys here I can say the combat sports fans were interested in boxing like I've never seen before during this fight & even after it. I listen to a ton of combat sports podcasts & the Conor vs Floyd fight got a lot of them crossing over to the Canelo vs GGG like I've not seen previously. And then after that result that they almost universally saw as a b#ttf#cking of GGG they said f#ck boxing lol so a lot of good it did just to get screwed over by "the real fight" as so many called it.

That said in MMA specifically & most other combat sports pure aggression is scored & effective aggression isn't a part of their scoring criteria so to them this was damn near a 12-0 since Canelo backed away most rounds & this was seen as even a bigger robbery to the average MMA fan vs average boxing fan.

I imagine the outcome with many sports fans who tuned in was the same, but thats just speculation.
