Comments Thread For: Chris Eubank Jr. May Ultimately Enhance Father's Legacy

By Corey Erdman - Chris Eubank Jr. may never find his way out of his father's shadow, but he's coming as close as you can get to creating a legacy separate from his famous Dad's. Eubank advanced to the super middleweight World Boxing Super Series semifinal on Saturday with a brutal, one-sided stoppage of previously unbeaten Avni Yildirim. After dropping the Turkish brawler in the first round with a trademark uppercut, he never bothered to do anything other than stand right in front of Yildirim and rattle off combinations that perhaps no other super middleweight in the world can put together.

Where is James DeGale? Where is James DeGale's sister? Sorry, I digress. James DeGales vs. Zurdo Ramirez! Make it happen! Let's Go! Arum and Haymon gave us Crawford vs. Molina, Crawford vs. Felix Diaz, now give us this one! ESPN, this is a good one!

      Snr's legacy get's totally underlooked.

The same criticisms were aimed at him as they were at his son, both being accused of being protected, conning the public, and ultimately being posers, and not 'real' fighters that would be exposed when they stepped up.

Snr went through hell and back to KO the feared Dark destroyer as the underdog. Benn had just Brutally KO'd Iran Barkley in 1 round, Benn was of course limited but he was a very dangerous puncher who went undefeated for 6 years until the end of his career after meeting Eubank.

For me the tragic thing for Eubank is during his reign of title defenses, he was again accused of not taking risks and when he did he was beaten by Steve Collins. So again was accused of being a pretender and a poser.

What bigger Risk can you take than going from Middleweight to Cruiserweight...at the end of your career in a fight that everyone expected you to get knocked out by big puncher Carl thompson (KO'd David haye)

Not only Did Snr not get knocked out or knocked down, but he knocked down the cruiser-weight champion! and went through an unbelievable amount of pain and punishment to win (both fights IMO) and get robbed of the victories despite a grotesque amount of facial swelling.

Those two fights at the end of his career should of made his legacy, and he was unfortunately robbed of it.
In my mind Eubank was a true warrior with an iron clad chin, with will & heart that was unmatched.

For anyone that hasnt seen these fights, underlooked classics IMO:

Sr. fought his fair share of good and bad fighters .He told Barry Hearn when he was doing his bum of the month run on ITV that he would not fight any southpaws and refused anyone under 29.He sparred Herol Graham and said he would NEVER fight him for real.He avoided the then top guy out there james Toney like the plague but then fought Nigel Benn,Calzaghe, Watson,Benn and Collins and the move up to Carl Thompson was impressive .Six good names out of 45 fights.

Jr. has to prove like his dad he can hit back when hurt and in a dog fight his work rate has already taken over Srn's . as he was often lazy.

Some truth to this, although I think BJS has some solid skills. His motor is his issue.

But Eubanks seems more comfortable at 168. Maybe 160 was tapping too much of his athleticism.

Either way they fought to a close decision that could've went either way.

That was such a horrible performance from jnr I think he just froze on the big stage. Hope to see a rematch between them at some point

I think it was more that it was Eubank Jr’s first 12 round fight and he was concerned about running out of steam in the championship rounds if he was too active early in the fight. So he tried to pace himself early, and he really overdid it. He didn’t have near the workrate in the first half of the fight that he could have done and should have done. I think it’s obvious in the second half as Saunders got tired and Eubank stepped up his work rate and took over the fight. Split decision loss seemed right to me. He lost the first half and won the second half, but Saunders got one extra round on him somewhere. In my opinion at this point in time Eubank wins a rematch if they have one
