There were plans for middleweight contender, David Lemieux, to fight on the Miguel Cotto undercard at New York's Madison Square Garden on December 2nd. But it turns out he might have bigger fish to fry now. According to Eric Gomez, the President of Golden Boy Promotions (which handles Lemieux, alongside Eye of the Tiger Management):

Lemieux better not duck the December fight with excuses as he's got more then enough time to train for it. He has to go to the UK too as BJS is the CHAMPION and had DECEMBER 9th at the Copper Box in London set aside.

Lately I've been thinking that Lemieux is actually fearful of fighting Saunders. I mean, why else would he opt for Centeno Jr or Kirkland?

Looks like BJS isn't going to get to cash that Golovkin/Canelo golden ticket after all.

              Saunders should win easy.

Now that would be a damn good fight. Lemieux honestly wasn't going to get the Cotto fight. He's simply to big, explosive for Cotto at this stage of Cotto's career.

Saunders vs Lemeiux is a 50/50 fight. HBO would pick this fight up in a heart beat. It would be a good east coast fight or U.K. fight.

There's no excuses why this fight shouldn't be made.

Golden Boy has 3 mandatory title fights that need to be made now.

Lemieux vs Saunders, Garcia vs Linares, and Russell Jr. vs Diaz. These are going to be complicated to make and there going to have to meet in the middle for all 3 fights.

Oh he might if he has the discipline and the stamina to box Lemieux for 12 rounds. That being said, I'd root for Lemieux as he is my hometown fighter.

Both are scheduled back in the ring Dec 16. Why not together in the same ring at the same time.
