Might make for some action packed 12th rounds, if the fights seem close.

      Wait, what?

Maybe I am a little slow, but it can still be a draw if two judges score it for one fighter and the two score it for the other fighter, no?

I'm glad they have taken steps to keep the tournament going just in case there is a draw. The rules are already laid out and the boxers are aware. It doesn't matter though. People will still complain. Imagine when a split decision happens. People are going to be clamoring for the 4th judge like his/her card is valid for that scenario. LOL.

The 4th judge's card will only be considered if there is a draw from the 3 official judges.

Far as I can tell the fight officially goes on record as the result from the 3 judges, which keeps it within WBC rules. So, for example, if the three judges score it a draw, it will show up in boxrec as a D on each boxers record.

The 4th judge only comes into play as the tournament needs someone declared as the winner, so, in the case of a draw, the 4th judges card can be used to determine who goes forward in the competition. Doesn't affect the 'official' result from the first 3 judges.

If all 4 have a draw, then for purposes of the tournament only again the count-back is used.

I always wondered why fights went from 15 to 12 and not another odd number like 13. Seems that would help reduce draws without an additional judge. Maybe i'm missing something.

The only way the 4th judge would be used is in the case of a split draw correct? With a majority or unanimous draw where 2 or 3 judges score the fight a draw, even with a 4th judge you can't have a majority going towards one fighter because 2/4 or 3/4 of the cards would be even anyway.
