Comments Thread For: Melindo To Target Unification Bouts in Case of Win Over Budler

Four months after winning his first world title at the Ariake Colosseum in Tokyo, Japan, Milan Melindo is scheduled to have his first defense on September 16 in his home country of The Philippines. The new IBF light flyweight champion is facing former strawweight titlist Hekkie Budler in a fight that headlines an eight-bout card promoted by ALA Promotions at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino in Cebu City.

Ryoichi Taguchi and Kosei Tanaka have basically agreed to unify, so these words spoken by Milan provide the hardcore with hope that perhaps Light-flyweight may see a undisputed champion by 2018 -- provided that Kenshiro is on board with the plan ; regardless one unified championship match suffices.

Oh...I also see Hekkie's IBO is at stake, I thought it would not be contested in this match...whatever.

Yes, Taguchi vs Tanaka could easily come next, it would be a hell of a scrap. Shiro most likely has to face his mandatory, Pedro Guevara later this year. I will speak to Guevara in the coming days to get some info about negotiations on that one. To see an undisputed champ as low as at 108 pounds would be wonderful.

Thanks! that would be as epic for the lighterweight classes, like Jiro Watanabe @ superfly attempting to unify his WBA title with WBC Payao Poontarat but stripped for going against politics in 1984. Or Michael Carbajal vs. Humberto "Chiquita" Gonzalez ten years later for the lineal lightflyweight 'Mega' fight but the difference here is that it could be for all the belts IBO, IBF, WBA, WBC for the first time in history! Kenshiro better not pass on this opportunity.
