  • Comments Thread For: Is it Time For Robert Guerrero and Takashi Miura To Retire?

By Corey Erdman - Being a boxing fan is a cruel existence for any number of reasons. The sport has no set schedule, doesn't always promise the best matchups, and has any number of injustices and inequalities that are difficult to negotiate. But perhaps no part of fandom is more difficult than watching your heroes get pummelled at the end of their careers. It's a harsh reality that the people we hold up as making the sport pure, true and exciting-our sport's action heroes-are often taken away from us early, and in brutal fashion...

Robert Guerrero wa always a hype job, a sort of ghost if you will. An illusion of something of potential. A figment of rueben's imagination. Not real, the ghost.

A comparation between Guerrero and Miura is totally ****** and ignorant.

Miura still being a rock and a solid rival for any fighter in 130.

Just because Berchelt outboxed him doesn't mean that he is in the same situation than Guerrero.

Miura has like 2 great fights more in his tank of gas.

Several fighters fit into the category, but it's the same old story... the only one who can or will decide that is the fighter himself. I haven't followed Miura as closely as I have Guerrero. He has some serious obligations at home with his wife and her cancer issues, so likely has no choice in the matter. It is evident he has some serious miles on the odometer, but there is an easier way to finish out a few more fights before retiring. He could take the Buster Douglas route. Buster took some time off after the Holyfield loss, came back and was 8 and 1 in his last 9 fights against marginal fighters. His case was unique because he nearly died from a diabetic condition, and needed to get in shape again, but Guerrero could do the same type thing. No reason to take on the boogeymen of the division anymore, and he could still make some decent money over a few more fights.

But what is left for guerrero? Figueroa is ok, but not one of the top guys. Before that he lost to a cab driver and went limb against gatekeeper Aaron Martinez.

Losing to Thurman and Garcia is no big deal. But he can't even win against journeymen anymore. The way he reacts to punches is ridiculous.

Guerrero? Hell yes. He hasn't been the same since the Thurman fight and you could literally see him go from still hanging on to completely washed up in between rounds 4 and 6 of the cab driver fight. Miura still has something left. He should take a little time off, maybe do 1 tuneup fight, then rematch either Vargas or Uchiyama

Health wise Guerrero should retire and competitively speaking he's done.

Health wise it may be best Miura to retire but competitively speaking he's still viable. I would like to see him test Davis who doesn't appear to be that mobile in the ring. He might be able to pull off the upset.

miura i think its more of style clash/fight plan than a deterioration..berchelt opted to box him at a distance and did just that

ghost though is finished in every sense of the word...starting from the kamegai fight(the last fight that i thought he won clear)..its just been beatings and beatings...to continue for him he will get hurt
