BoxingScene.com has been advised by multiple sources that 2012 Olympic bronze medalist Oleksandr Gvozdyk (13-0) will face Craig Baker (17-1) on August 19th on ESPN. The fight will be the co-feature bout in chief support of the Terence Crawford-Julius Indongo main event that takes place in Lincoln, Nebraska, about an hour from Crawford's hometown of Omaha. The fight will be the second event televised by ESPN as part of their new pact with Top Rank.

Thats a bs fight for The Nail. Baker ain't fought in a year & got blasted out by Edwin Rodriguez. They need to keep The Nail in with top 20ish guys for sure if not top 15, top 10 guys. This cat is 30 already. Quit wasting his time with bs fights.

Mismatch. I am disappointed in Gvozdyk as much as I am disppointed in Lomachenko fighting Marriaga. They need to the likes of Smith, Berrera or Stevenson.

Yeah, it kinda hurt me as a very big fan of his. I think everyone and their mother knows that the Nail is head and shoulder's above top 20 guys and should fight top 5 guys.

Oh yea top 5 is ideal right now, I'm just saying at least give him a top 20 guy for a "keep busy" fight if thats the plan here. Baker isn't THAT bad or anything, but he's been inactive & he needs to do something more meaningful after that Rodriquez fight to be put into this sorta fight vs a guy like The Nail.

I'd like to see The Nail vs Kovalev if it was makeable. And idk if it is or isn't makeable, but I think that'd be a nice & timely fight for the The Nail to see whats up with him + it gets some **** measuring & maybe some talk going on with Ward in the event Ward does stay at 175.

How you think he'd do vs Kovalev?

I think he is ready for Kovalev and Andre Ward, though i give more chances on Gvozdyk beating Ward than Kovalev, because of the difference in power. I think a Barrera or a Alvarez fight should suffice, and if pass those tests, he should fight Kovalev or Andre Ward. And Especially the destructive momentum from Destroying Chilemba and Gonzalez, among all other sideline fighters (Smith, Barrera, Beterbiev, Gvozdyk) Gvozdyk has the strongest resume , but fighting Rodriguez might hurt the momentum unless he fights a high profile guy next fight.

His fighting style also reminds of Juan Manuel Marquez, due to how he utilizes counter punching, he does it in volumes and every opportunity the guy opens up. Yet he's much more agressive.

Very weak fight. Top Rank keeping it low level or inhouse

Not a great fight for the Ukrainian, but then again there ain't that many names above Baker on the list who are available right now - nearly all the top guys fought within the last month or so or have **** in the pipeline. Beterbiev or Browne maybe... though few promoters seem willing to put top unbeaten prospects in with each other so I guessing it's unlikely. Besides, looks like Beterbievs got enough other ish on his plate right now.

EDIT: And yeah. Ooops Browne's busy too - I obviously ain't been keeping up with the news.

Looks like another great night for boxing! 2017 has been the best in a long, long time! Hopefully we see Bivol vs. Gvozdyk later this year!

That's an awesome fight.. at this point it's a 50-50
Though I am highly doubtful that would happen because Bivol is headed towards WBA title and Gvozdyk like most people under Arun's stable is headed towards WBO..
Gvozdyk, Bivol, Beterbeiv, Barrera and Smith should all be fighting each other in a World Series kind of tournament like they are doing at SMW and CW
