  • Comments Thread For: Arum: Verdejo Capable of Beating Flanagan, ESPN May Televise

After several weeks of uncertainty, the boxer will now be able to concentrate on his first title fight against Terry Flanagan for the lightweight belt of the World Boxing Organization (WBO). A phone conversation originated from promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank and that was the only thing required to finally reach an agreement for the title fight between Verdejo and Flanagan.

If it's on ESPN that would be great. I have a feeling Verdejo might get sparked out.

If this gets placed on ESPN that would be cool. Pretty good card shaping up in London on September 16th. Billy Joe Saunders vs Willie Monroe Jr. and Verdejo vs. Flanagan, two world title fights, good stuff, good appetizer for the main course later that day Triple G vs. Canelo

I had high hopes for Verdejo until last year. And I'm not really confident in this title shot. I mean Verdejo does have a chance to win, Flanagan is the weakest of the 4 champions at 135 but even if Verdejo wins the 135 division is stacked.

Mikey Garcia, Jorge Linares, Robert Easter, etc...

Whether Verdejo beats Flanagan or not it doesn't look too promsing for Verdejo at 135.

Tank is at 130. Is he planning to move up to 135 already?

130 is another division that's stacked with Lomachenko, Berchelt, Tank Davis, etc...

I'm wondering who is going to be the guy who carries the torch from Cotto.

Verdejo hasn't been consistent and looks shakey, Alberto Machado looks good but damn he has to compete in the stacked 130 division with guys like Lomachenko and Davis, tough order.

There's an 18 year old prospect I'm keeping an eye on. Joseph "Blessed Hands" Adorno. Perhaps he might be the guy. Somebody has to step up eventually and carry the torch.

I'm not too excited about Verdejo. He may very well beat Flanagan and become WBO Champ but man the other champs in the division are Mikey Garcia, Jorge Linares and Robert Easter.

Verdejo has been looking shakey lately, not a good sign.

At 130 Alberto Machado looks good but that division is stacked with Lomachenko, Tank Davis, Miguel Berchelt, etc...

Let's see how this 18 year old prospect does, Joseph "Blessed Hands" Adorno, he's 4-0-4 KO's right now, all 1st round KO's. He has a really good amateur record. But only time will tell.

Someone eventually has to carry the torch, Cotto is going to retire very soon. Someone needs to continue and carry the torch to keep the tradition going.

Now Talking about 130 pounds Machado, u really think Lomachenko can beat Machado?? Lomachenko might be more skilled but Machado is 5"11 with a REALLY REALLY powerful punch, i dont really think Loma will want to face Machado or any of the others champs neither.

About Verdejo I KNOW he will beat Flanagan and with more experience and age he will beat Mikey or Linares.
