  • Comments Thread For: Miguel Cotto: Boxing in a Difficult Period of Controversial Decisions

Miguel Cotto has been aware of what happened with his gym partner, Manny Pacquiao, last Saturday in Brisbane, Australia. But the Puerto Rican star has not discussed the issue with his trainer Freddie Roach, who is currently preparing the boxer for his upcoming fight against Japanese slugger Yoshihiro Kamegai on August 26 in Carson, California.

Boxing will always have controversy because its scoring is somewhat subjective.

Why don't judges watch the fight on a monitor like fans at home do? Surely scoring would improve.

Joe Cortez has also been saying for the longest to seat judges higher up, this gives them a better view. He did some tests and it says it works. Not sure what kind of tests but he's given interviews on the subject.

Boxing is like that ...controversial decisions, close decisions but the one thing that can be changed as having competent officials not like the ones that were officiating Horn v's Pac... what the US needs a new will never have because the states will not relinquish it is a national commission too many states would lose the power that they have and the dollars their States gain from the fights... the US is one of the only countries in the world without a national boxing commission, sad.

Nice try Cotto, bringing up the Canelo fight again.

            That wasn't controversial, you lost.

            Pacquiao definitely won.

The Cotto-Canelo fight wasn't controversial but a couple of those scorecards were. 119-109, 118-110 scorecards for Canelo vs Cotto were a joke. The fight was much closer than that. You can say Canelo won, but by 119-109 and 118-110 scorecards, hell nah.

For sure the Cotto-Canelo fight wasn't controversial. You can say Canelo won, but the 119-109 and 118-110 score cards were ridiculous.

With Canelo score cards are controversial.

Scorecards in the Trout 118-109, Mayweather 114-114, Lara 117-111 and Cotto 119-109, 118-110 fights were suspect.

                  make a spreadsheet

record all the wide scores, particularly toward certain fighters

if you go back a few years you should start to see a pattern

if not, then it most likely means that different judges look for different things

people are quick to jump to su****ion, but some scores are a little su****ious

the problem is..... situations like CJ Ross

there was no investigation, and Ross walked off into the sunset

I would like to punch her in the face repeatedly

in that situation, the fight had to be close for Ross to benefit Canelo..... but it wasn't..... in boxing, it is really obvious that you would need to buy TWO judges..... so not really sure what happened in that fight, Ross score seemed to be passed off as incompetence/incontinence
