Comments Thread For: Yamanaka Not Fixated on Breaking Record, Hopes To KO Nery

WBC bantamweight champion Shinsuke Yamanaka insists attempting to match a 37-year-old Japanese record will not affect his performance when he fights Mexican challenger Luis Nery next month. Yamanaka, 34, will be aiming to tie former WBA light flyweight champion Yoko Gushiken's record of 13 consecutive world title defenses when he takes on his 22-year-old top-ranked opponent at Shimadzu Arena in Kyoto on Aug. 15.

This match has FOTY written all over it. I've been following Nery's career, since tvazteca televises nearly all of his bouts. I must say he has looked like a killer so far. If he manages to secure a win against this guy Yamanaka, I would really love to see him against Nonito Donaire soon afterwards.

I think Yamanaka is vulnerable enough that he will get KO'd by Nery. However, I want Yamanaka to win because it can set up a fight with Inoue, and that would be a monster fight in Japan.

I agree man, Inoue seems like another killer in this division but like Nery they both still have to step up in opposition to find out what kind of killers they truly are when tested.... You have Cuadras, Estrada, and Chocolatito Gonzales... even Wangek can prove to be a test for either one of this two guys... We need to have all this guys fight each other... that would give us boxing fans a hell of a year!!!

i wish man. i bet he would if there were
                  a
big fight, but i reckon he draws a bigger crowd
in japan than anywhere else. dont think theres a big fight foR him in the US, tho id LUV to see rashee warren in the ring with him. is there a popular bantamweight in the UK?

Yamanaka is one of the very best fighters around but he is getting old and in those lower divisions, 34 is ancient so can a young gun like Nery end this tremendous run? I havent seen the other guy fight, how good is he? How tall, because Yamanaka is tall for a bantam and has often used that advantage to impose his will on opponents.
