The World Boxing Super Series is delighted to announce that former WBA & WBO Light Heavyweight Champion Juergen Braehmer (48-3, 35 KOs) will be coming down in weight to participate in the inaugural season of the World Boxing Super Series, joining WBA Super World Champion George Groves as well as undefeated challengers Erik Skoglund and Jamie Cox in the super-middleweight competition. The remaining four participants will be unveiled in the next days, with all eight fighters coming face-to-face at the Draft Gala next Saturday to hand-pick their quarter-final opponents.

Well, it's clear that the 168 pound tournament is gonna stink! Weak division.

I'm hoping the rest of the opponents yet to be unveiled really blow us away because Juergen is uninspiring.

I'm kind of intrigued if not excited how all these Light Heavys are gonna get down to super middle... why weren't they campaigning there before?

200lb tournament, 6 guys in, 6 guys ranked in the top ten of the TBRB rankings.
168lb tournament, 4 guys in, 2 guys ranked in the top ten of the TBRB rankings.

Eh, I definitely wished they woulda went with the 154lb division now. This 168 division is filled with a bunch of guys who aren't making big money & don't even wanna prove they are the best & win big money by winning 3 fights in a row ffs.

If I was Gilberto Ramirez I'd be threatening to sit out if Arum didn't let me in this tournament so he could make $10M by this time next year. F#ck fighting on ESPN for peanuts in comparison.

There wasn't $10M at stake for winning 3 fights in a row.

Braehmer hasn't fought at 168 in a decade, won paper belts in setup fights but never had any intention of fighting the best at light heavyweight. He might as well try this tournament if he can get down in weight since there is nobody dominant at 168.

Not too inspiring. 168 is pretty weak. Although it was always going to be hard to match the CW's, as that has come together real nice.

Braehmer, Groves, Skoglund and Cox so far.

Dirrell Vs Smith would of been a decent fight to include. With all the issues with dates and venues though, i doubt that will be an option.

Dont know whats holding them up. No guy at 168 commands big noney fights. The only 1 mio purse guy is degale.
There are some guys who have fights lined up. Smith vs Dirrell and Ramirez rumored to fight Hart. Also Abraham Vs Chris Eubank Jr. and thr rematch between dirrel vs uzca.. was ordered. They should just count these fights as wssb fights lol.

Going through the rankings, there arent many more decent fighters in 168. Hopefully they get Yildrin and Benavidez. Good prospects.

Groves is good, cox is a nobody, skoglund and brämer are decent european level guy, but will lose against top guys.

We still get better fights than without the tournament, but in direct comparison to the cruiserweights its pretty bad. Would be a shame if the 168 guys have the same purses as the 200 guys.
