    NEW YORK Joe Smith Jr. would love the chance to pick up where Andre Ward left off earlier this month. If Smith defeats fellow light heavyweight contender Sullivan Barrera on July 15, the hard-hitting Long Island native hopes that victory leads to a fight against Sergey Kovalev. The former light heavyweight champion, who lost to Ward by eighth-round technical knockout in their rematch June 17 in Las Vegas, is expected to return to the ring sometime in November.

      I'm guessing kovalev will also take a tune-up or an easy fight after the two batterings he's had ,and then maybe a fight w/Smith may be his last hurrah if hecan't take Smith out early... a win over kovalev even at this stage would definitely cement him as a true contender and open up a title shot but Ward would beat him

          Joes promoter needs to promote him way more! He needs to do more interviews and come to some fights so he can talk to the media! He seems to be hidden away in ny after every fight...

              Barrera is a tough guy but Smith can punch. Joe Smith ain't no joke in there. If he catches any top fighter they can go down.

                              He was still working construction before the Hopkins fight. Not sure if he's still working a day job.
