Comments Thread For: Mikkel Kessler Update, Haertel vs. Mendy Set, Erik Skoglund News

Former WBA and WBC super middleweight champion Mikkel Kessler has passed all of the necessary medical tests for his comeback, according to TV 2 Sport in Denmark. However, Kessler notes that there is no fight booked yet but says he would love to join the World Boxing Super Series tournament. However, nothing is set. The 38-year old Viking Warrior, 46-3, last fought in 2013 when he lost a twelve round decision in a rematch to Carloh. He decided earlier this year to make a comeback.

So Kessler will likely join the WBSS following a 4 year retirement. So he will be rusty af and I am sure the first seed will pick him as there will never be a better chance than now to KO the viking warrior thereby getting an excellent name on the record.

Skoglund really needs to concentrate on fighting for the EBU title right now!

Why does he announce his comeback without a fight. I don't understand it. It's like he hasn't returned at all.

I'm sure there is a comeback as he has made frequent twitter updates including visits at Jimmy Montoya in California.

It's possible that he announced his comeback without a fight because Sauerland wanted to see what offers and reactions it would provoke. I think they might had a hope of luring Carl Froch out of retirement also.

Kessler from experience understands the value of a good American trainer.

Absolutely. Not that I think nationality is key.

I'd be very surprised if he was back for financial issues, so this comeback confuses me. Surely he knows he won't be able to hang at the top level anymore, so why do it? Last time we saw him he looked like a shot fighter who had just enough left to be competitive, but that ws it.

He should call Froch for a third match and the go back into retirement if he needs cash. Going in there with young guys at the top level would be crazy.

Maybe a fight against Degale would set up a big one against Groves. I think he could win both.
