Comments Thread For: Jackson Confirms Talks: Team Ward Initiated Calls To Hire Me

At the media workout for Sergey Kovalev - who faces Andre Ward again on June 17th at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas - at the Boxing Laboratory gym in Oxnard, California, was his trainer John David Jackson. Who made it clear that despite whatever claims made by Ward's representatives he was not going to switch sides for the rematch.

LOL, so it was them who tried to create tension then put it on the media to look like Jackson is betraying Kovalev.

"Muted in the corner..." blatant disrespect. Jackson is embarrassing himself by staying on Kovalev's team at this point.

But this whole drama is tiring. I'm not so sure the fight is all that important anymore; with so much happening across the sport this year. They need to put on better performances than what we got in the first fight or this contest won't be remembered amongst the top fights of 2017. Shame what it's come to. The first fight had so much promise. We supposed to be crowning a P4P king, and instead were 8 months past it, and the rematch isn't generating any meaningful buzz. I expect them to sell a little less than the first fight.

There was already tension/turmoil in that team.

If you know you lost the last time and you know you can't beat REAL Champion, find another tactics to mess with his head. Team Wart phaggotry!!! Pathetic.

told ya that story sounded like bs

kovalev and jackson aren't contracted members of a sports team they are two guys choosing to work together... if they wanted to end it they'd just say so

Andre Ward is such a compassionate man, this gesture is evidence of Dre's sympathetic nature.

Its very clear to me that John David Jackson has suffered all kinds of abuse : degradation and demoralization as a trainer but more importantly as a person. Despite of all this Jackson remains loyal to a fault - I pity him.

Back in November during the first match-up, Jackson was noticeably muted in the corner as Kovalev dropped a disputed decision to Ward. "For the second go-around I'll have a lot more control. Certain things happened that fight that were not within my power," stated the veteran trainer. "But once the fight ended you could see these things didn't work and Sergey realized that and we went back to the way things used to be. I'm going to run this ship and we're going to see what happens."
