Comments Thread For: Mayweather: GGG Makes Many Mistakes, Canelo Will Win, By KO

Former five division champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. is not only picking Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (49-1-1, 34 KOs) to defeat Gennady Golovkin (37-0, 33 KOs) - he is picking him to do so inside the distance. Canelo will challenge Golovkin for the IBF, IBO, WBA, WBC middleweight titles on September 16th, on HBO Pay-Per-View. No venue has been finalized at the moment.

Floyd helping to promote Canelo while Oscar is writing letters. Floyd has been saying for a while that Canelo will win while everybody else was saying GGG will destroy him. Now it's become sexy to pick Canelo after GGG has looked mediocre against a welterweight and a B level fighter. GGG's style is Taylor made for Canelo. Slow and flat footed. Canelo's problems came against mobile fighters.

Yea I don't know about knockout, I suppose it can happen but if he wins the fight inside the distance it is more likely he breaks Golovkin's will to fight and he makes him quit. Which I don't find very likely either but if I envision a Canelo stoppage it is looking like that.

The difference is that Chavez jr just tried to survive. Golovkin will try to win. And that means he will take risks.

Mayweather says Canelo beats GGG because he already beat Canelo & if Canelo beats GGG makes May look good & doesn't have to fight GGG in the future!

I think canelos problem is much more than a mobile fighter, floyd didnt do much of any moving. Canelos big weakness and a massive strength for golovkin which he has on the level of mayweather is his jab. Golivkins jab is very clever, its not just fired with power, its fiented, it sways around and can turn into a hook or a straight or a fake for a power shot. Being flatfooted, canelo will have to eat up all those fients and be weary of that hand all night (unless he can scare golovkin off or keep on the iniative) because he wont be able to stay out of range, and that will be mentally taxing.

Just remembered that even floyd had this guy sitting on the ropes. Canelo has speed and headmovement, but he wont be able to punch all night and he definitely wont be moving his head all night.

Guys come on, Mayweather is your biggest supporter in the world AFTER he beats you. The better you do, the more he can say "See, I beat that guy who just won, that's how great I am."

This is not an honest appraisal, it is self obsessed self promotion. Of course Mayweather is going to say that the guy he beat is better than the guy that some people would say he is avoiding. In the same sentence Mayweather says he beats Golovkin easy but that he (Mayweather) was never really a 154 pounder. So what does that mean? Mayweather might as well say that he beats Anthony Joshua easy, it's meaningless.

Let's see Mr Mayweather, who's known for making a lot of big time bets, put his money where his mouth is

Exactly! That's what a lot of pro-Canelo fans seem to miss. They seem to think that Golovkin is just a come forward brawler who's only slow, has a chin and has an intimidation factor and that Canelo will beat him to the punch. But as you said before, a huge weapon of his, is the jab. It still got to Brook and Jacobs who were awkward/faster for Golovkin to fight and he still landed it on them. Canelo being the shorter guy and exerting energy trying to avoid it, will get caught by it.
