Comments Thread For: Maidana: Canelo-Golovkin Winner Will Be The Best in The World

Former two division world champion Marcos Maidana is very pleased that a deal was reached between Saul "Canelo" Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin. Maidana was ringside in Las Vegas on May 6th, watching Canelo dominate Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. over twelve rounds at the T-Mobile Arena. Canelo (49-1-1, 34 KOs) will challenge Golovkin (37-0, 33 KOs) for the IBF, IBO, WBA, WBC middleweight titles on September 16th. There has been no date venue finalized for the fight, as of yet, and several locations are competing to secure the HBO Pay-Per-View.

I think whoever wins Kovalev-Ward and GGG-Canelo in the most dominant fashion will get it. If one of those four fighters can dominate, or get the KO, they will get the top spot, even though Lomachenko is probably the best right now and three of those four guys are getting older. Then whoever out of the group of Lomachenko, Mikey, Spence, or Crawford can get and win a signature fight against an elite prime fighter first will take the top spot afterwards if they can do it in style. And I don't mean Spence beating Brook 8-4 makes him #1 pound for pound, because Lomachenko already dominated two guys on that level in GRJ and Walters. I'm talking about if Spence can knockout Lara or something, I mean who knows there actually aren't really any elite guys in that weight range 147 to 154. No one has really stood out. There's nothing I can see there that would compare to Lomachenko going up and beating Mikey, in terms of what Spence can do.

Now Crawford on the other hand, if he can go up and beat Spence, then that's on the same level as Lomachenko going up to beat Mikey. Just like Mikey going up to beat Crawford or Spence would be. Those are the kinds of fights I mean.

Hopefully that can happen by early next year but we know how boxing loves to marinate fights too long.

Yea, a Maidana article without a recent picture of his fatass is disappointing. I wish he was still fighting instead of living off his Floyd pay checks.

It's subjective, it depends on what you like. We might as well vote on it. Maidana is just one vote, I think heavyweights will rule 2017. The Canelo circus is good, but Joshua and Wilder would make Canelo v 3G fade in the conversation.
