  • Comments Thread For: Gervonta Davis Understands Decision to Make First Defense in UK

Gervonta Davis is completely comfortable with making his first title defense overseas. Davis understood that it made more financial sense to travel to the United Kingdom to battle British contender Liam Walsh on Saturday in London. The boxing business is booming in England and when your promoter is the highest-paid boxer in the sport's history, you tend to listen to his advice.

hmm floyd didnt always make the decision that would make him the most money. fighting guys like sharmba, judah, and baldomir instead of margarito among other decisions. its not about making the most its about making smart decisions. going to another country improves the chances of you losing 5 fold. you better be sure you are figthing a bum to take a little bit more money.

Floyd was absolutely terrified of fighting outside the USA.

He knew he sometimes needed to rely on crooked judges (Castillo I) and crooked refs like Cortez (Hatton).

He's delusional...but that might be the closest he's ever got to a truly hostile arena (although he had a lot of supporters there in AC too). DeLa Hoya had a pretty rambunctious bunch rooting for him and so did Hatton but both fights were in Vegas.

I don't think he's ever had any thing like what this kid will see on Saturday. But Davis also isn't fighting in some huge 20K plus arena either, so...
