  • Comments Thread For: Groves Reveals - Gutknecht's Family Absolved Him of Any Blame

Good to hear the family understand that Groves was doing what he had to do. The corner and ref in that fight was a disgrace. They are the ones who should feel terrible, the corner didn't even care about their fighter at all. I'm guessing they had a decision bet on him to keep him in there that long.

Hopefully Groves doesn't let this get to him for his upcoming fight.

That was a sobering read and I felt George's words were appropriate and genuine. I didn't know the outlook for Gutknecht was quite that bad so George will do pretty well to blank all that out and try to put the hurt on Fed Chudinov. Sure hope the family can raise enough money to cover his care costs.

"Groves set up a fundraising appeal for his stricken opponent, eventually raising £4,620.50"

Well done, mate. I really hope that £4,620.50 would change this poor guy's life around. Its such a huge fund already that you don't need to add anything to it from your own money. At the end of the day, you've been absolved of any guilt, right?

Well said. I met Gutknecht once when he was on an undercard. Nice guy.

This is such a tragic story that unfortunately comes with the territory of boxing.

Stop being such an ignorant piece of ****. Sadly its an occupational hazard and Groves doesn't owe him anything. He has his own family to look after it could easily have been the other way round

Kovalev killed someone in the ring. He gave his next purse to the family of that guy. He didn't "owe" it. Haye gave over $50,000 to Blackwell. Not only he didn't "owe" it, Haye didn't even know the guy personally. He did this out of solidarity with a fellow boxer and as an act of charity since Blackwell's career came to an end.

You are right in one thing: no one owes decency. But its nice to see it once in a while. Being a decent human being requires more than doing only what you "owe". And that is something I'd love to see in Grooves...at least he's got the means to help this guy for god's sake.

P.S. Learn the meaning of the word "ignorant", eventually you might start using it appropriately
