  • Comments Thread For: Hearn Hoping To Work Out Joshua vs. Pulev IBF Situation

As BoxingScene.com's Steve Kim first reported on Wednesday, the IBF is ordering their world champion Anthony Joshua (19-0, 19 KOs) to make a mandatory defense against Kubrat Pulev of Bulgaria. This past Saturday night, Joshua unified the IBF, WBA, IBO world titles with an eleventh round stoppage of former division ruler Wladimir Klitschko.

Pulev vs Takam for the "IBF Interim", then if Takam wins he might make a good opponent for the African fight that Hearn and Joshua have been talking up?

Still, I think they should just face Pulev three to four months from now. It would be a solid development fight and then they could still do the Klitschko rematch in the winter

If team Joshua wanted an 'Interim' champion to make this go away just fake injury...thats usually how its done...but just requesting Pulev to fight someone else again is like telling him to fight another eliminator just to save his payday with A.J.

I doubt anyone would risk taking an L when the payday is soon to be forced...then again considering Hearn is not bluffing team Pulev might accept, its really up to the IBF. It would be very rare to see this sanctioning body making concession for Joshua when they did not do it for Fury-Klitch.

I read an article by fat Dan that the IBF has issued an Interim title bout only for injuries and this has been done just four times in the past decade ; last champion to benefit was its cruiserweight champion Juan Pablo Hernandez around 2015.

It's a crap fight. Who wants to see Pulev against Joshua when Wladimir already ko'd Pulev.

I like that the IBF follows their rules. They just need to change their rules some. They need to understand what extenuating circumstances means. But what they most need to do is change up their rule book so that more and better fighters want and get to be in the IBF rankings.
