Comments Thread For: Chavez: My Size Is An Advantage; 'Of Course' I Can KO Canelo

Size will matter, according to Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. The former WBC middleweight champion said during a conference call Monday that he expects his size advantage over Canelo Alvarez to be a major factor when they meet Saturday night in Las Vegas. Alvarez has never fought above a contracted weight of 155 pounds, but the Mexican superstar agreed to face Chavez at a catch weight of 164 pounds.

I know the face offs are made to be dramatic, but imo Chavez genuinely looked scared talking to canelo.

When one naturally walks around @ nearly 180lbs, is it possible to cut down to 164.5lbs and not be weakened? I'm really worried that Chavez will be too weight-drained to use his size and power advantages.

I thought that at first but then by the end I decided I thought he was humble but focused. Canelo seems really angry and bitter but I think that's where Chavez wants him. IDK.

Brook cuts massive weight, Hatton used to cut 30+ lbs, maidana, Bradley, etc, etc. 16 lbs is really not a lot of weight. Chavez has just been a lazy fat ass his whole career.

Yeah, but those guys cut weight regularly, so they're used to it. Not Chavez.

That's because he never makes weight to begin with. When he was able to make 160 I'm quite sure he would cut 20+ lbs. The weight drained excuse won't work.

Hey, I hope the weight-drain isn't a factor & he kicks Cuntnelo's candy ass. But I've seen a pic of him @ 169 last week & he looked like a zombie.

Chavez jr. had an interview on Mon. at ESPN Deportes. I think he looks healthy and confident.
He was training 50 days in the mountains and Heredia has been helping him come down in weight slowly.
Still it could just come down to Alvarez being too much of a step up in class. I'm picking Julio but I wouldn't put money on it. lol
