Marriaga is a machine and has no quit in him. Valdez has a ****ing chin on him, power to topple anyone in his division and showed wrinkles to his game. Can he improve? Yup. And that's fine, you only get better by reflecting and seeing your mistakes. Something Valdez can review with this fight since I believe he didn't work the body enough and he really should tighten up his power punches.

Still though, that 10th round was something else. Marriaga was mounting an impressivr offense and Valdez was looking like he was at the point of succumbing but then boom! He detonated a bomb that scrambled Marriaga's brains and it was a grueling last minute of the round. Great stuff.
The fight revealed strengths and weaknesses from Valdez. He has very good hand speed, decent pop and knows how to land his punches. he doesnt just mindlessly flurry like Khan for example. Also good lateral movement and upper body movement to get out of the danger zone.

Besides his winging of shots, he needs to learn how to pace himself, although Marriagas pressure was definitely a big factor. During the whole fight he was constantly moving and throwing hard shots. No wonder he was spent by the 10th round.
Luckily, he knocked Marriaga down in the tenth, because shortly before the knockdown Valdez was visible exhausted.

Another good thing he has shown was his warrior mentality. He didnt let himself get disheartened by Marriagas relentless pressure and fought back even harder.

How did Walter handle Marriaga? Did he have an easy time or was it also a tough fight?
