Comments Thread For: Spike TV: Still Talking With Haymon, 'Very Satisfied' With PBC Fights

Last week, it was announced that Spike TV would not extend its two-year contract with Premier Boxing Champions. The network is planning to position their financial resources on acquiring more programming from the UFC's main competitor, mixed martial arts company Bellator. The network's decision is no surprise - because Bellator and Spike are owned by the same company, Viacom.

Sounds like when someone submits a job application and is told we are currently fully staffed, but if we get an opening we'll be sure to call you.

not really its just media spin. "if the right fight and right situation comes along we are interested" aka we want good fights or we are out. do you also believe trump when he says hes going to make everything the best? its just words. look at their actions...

PBC will never have success if the boxing media doesn't support it. Guys like Dan Rafael Steve Kim and certain Boxingscene writers are media cancers. Always stirring up some b.s..You would think that fans and media would get behind this after so horrible yrs of boxing due to Arum and King. How come we never hear about Top Rank deal with Trutv or GBB deal with FS1. We never get an article on their ratings and tv contracts.

This is just spin. It's like when a team fires a coach and both sides release nice quotes about each other. Neither wants to say anything nasty about each other but they are going their separate ways. When a team says we love the coach the effort he gave and don't regret the signing, we are satisfied with what he accomplished. Really? Then why are you firing him or not picking up option for another year. All fluff and spin. LMAO

If you ignore the headlines and look at the Schwarz quotes, they're not that different....

              ESPN:
"Spike aired a PBC fight a few months back [in January]. We have a great relationship and running dialogue with Al and the PBC," Schwarz told ESPN. "Our focus is on Bellator right now, but if the right fight arises we are all ears."

              BoxingScene:
“We’re tremendously committed to Bellator, which is having its best year ever,” Schwarz told The New York Post. “But we want to make it clear we’re still talking to Al, and we were very satisfied with the fights from PBC. If the right situation and right fight comes up, we’re all ears."

Actions are exactly what I'm looking. Spike was actually paying PBC unlike other platforms. With their recent restructuring these decisions make perfect sense. But the boxing community (around these threads) thinks about the sport in a vacuum. Its the same with the HBO situation. The fiscal decisions are made with more than boxing in mind. This isn't about "fight quality". No high quality fights will ever be on Spike w/ CBS in the picture. It's simple; Viacom has a business it owns that's cheaper content that they intend to build. They have a PPV coming soon.

how could it be media spin when the statement is from the "president of the network"? Are you slow? Or just high?

well then there is no need to have pbc on spike. this works for everyone. pbc can focus on doing good fights on bigger networks. spike can focus on re runs of cops.
