Comments Thread For: Marquez Sides With Chavez Jr. in Dispute With Nacho Over Otomi

Former four division world champion Juan Manuel Marquez disagrees with his career trainer Nacho Beristain, regarding the issues of keeping Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. at the Otomi Ceremonial Center until April 28th. Chavez Jr. hired Nacho to prepare him for the upcoming showdown with Saul "Canelo" Alvarez on May 6th from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The fight takes place at a catch-weight of 164.5-pounds.

Nacho wants the K.O. So he's more concerned with strength & timing rather than trying to out speed Canelo which won't happen anyway. I agree with Nacho even though it can overshadow Marquez famous Pac Knockout.

        I'm with Nacho.

I don't think a lil speed gained by Chavez Jr could change a thing with how this fight goes. Chavez Jr's only chance to win this fight is some freak KO situation or winning a decision by dropping Canelo more than once to leave lil opportunity for sketchy judges to sneak a decision Canelo's way. Judges LOVE Canelo. He got a f#cking draw on one card vs Floyd ffs. He's gotten more than a benefit of a doubt vs other guys on other scorecards in my eyes too.

Chavez Jr will win on strength & toughness if he is going to win (I have a hard time even considering him winning, but just saying). And I think with how halfass Chavez Jr's career has went I think keeping him on a straight & narrow road in training in every way is only going to give him more resolve to put his best self in the ring on May 6.

Marquez is the man, but I just don't see speed gained in a couple weeks being of much benefit for Chavez Jr.

No clue what Marquez is talking about. Siding with nacho plus from the comments in saw nacho felt disrespected like Chavez was trying to just blow of training camp by moving last minute. Then the bizarre comment from nacho that Chavez was upset because he got stung or bite by some animal/insect so that's why he wanted move training camp. I don't think Chavez trying to bail had anything to do with some strategic advantage for speed. He just lazy more distractions at mexico city and nacho put an end to that. Good for him

Can't teach speed. You either have it or you don't. However, timing and anticipation based on habits can be taught.
I expect Canelo to outclass Chavez Jr.

I agree with Nacho. Chavez is a guy who is easily distracted, moving training camp to Vegas too soon allows him more time and a huge playground to get into trouble. Chavez needs to show some discipline and willingness to win by listening to his coach.

JMM is one of the best boxers of his era and an all time great coming out of Mexico in my opinion, after Mayweather the best one who has boxed the incredible speed of Manny Pacquiao (devastating KO included), and some people here say they don't know what a 43 yo JMM is talking about. Really?

no need to work on speed. it aint like jr will become this quick little fighter in less than a month out. jr need to just concentrate on making weight healthy. work on stamina, etc. and then bank on jr's toughness to win the fight. jr's toughness with be the key to victory. if jr comes in healthy and can take canelo's best shot, then jr has a chance of winning late into the fight in hopes that canelo runs out of gas.
