Team Sauerland stage a press conference tomorrow at an upscale hotel in Copenhagen, Denmark, to announce "big news for Danish boxing". And the big news is according to Danish media that the Viking Warrior, Mikkel Kessler (46-3, 35 KOs), is coming back apparently to be one of the participants in the World Boxing Super Series that will begin this fall.

Not sure what this says about the tournament, given that they were supposed to be inviting ranked contenders.

Not surprising really. If Team Sauerland is involved in this tournament obviously they'll put their fighters even though they're not ranked. If it's the LHW division they'd put Stieglitz, Koelling, Boesel, Brähmer, etc. If it's the SMW they'd put Groves, Zeuge, Abraham, Feigenbutz. Smells like this tournament will be not World of Boxing Super Series, but Europe of Boxing Super Series.

Most of the contenders will be European level.

try reading everything boxing like this "boxing is false, boxing is a lie, boxing is bs.."

who knows maybe he takes some fights to a ranking based on his name or something..

i surely dont want to see a 168lb tournament...let hope he moves to 175 and they do it there

Kessler has been out of it too long to come back out the top level imo, but we will see I guess. Are they just doing this announcement tomorrow or is the super series schedule coming out tomorrow? Very interested to see what weight classes are chosen and some of the guys that are interested in participating.

Kessler should just stay retired but they never do.

I'm a fan of the WBSS concept, but a guy who's 38 & hasn't fought in 4 years (I didn't even realize he hadn't fought in 4 years thats how much of a f#ck I give about Kessler) isn't a good first name to be involved in this. Maybe this is better sounding news across the pond where Kessler didn't seem like an unpopular fighter during his career.

Sorta expecting a strong Euro bracket in one weight & a strong US bracket in the other weight doe so this isn't THAT unexpected thus far with Kessler's popularity & drawing ability over there.
