  • Comments Thread For: Spence's Trainer: Errol is Just as Big, Taller Than Kell Brook

Derrick James, head trainer of undefeated Olympian Errol Spence (21-0, 18 KOs), is brushing off any talk of a size advantage in favor of IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook (36-1, 25 KOs). Last Wednesday in Sheffield, Spence and Brook went face to face when the boxers officially announced their upcoming fight. The anticipated bout takes place at Bramall Lane on Saturday May 27, live on Sky Sports Box Office and live on Showtime in the United States.

This stood out to me when they did the presser last week. I always thought Kell was a huge WW. I was surprised to see Spence is just as big.

At the end of the day, both fighters would have to weigh 157 the day after the weigh in. They better lose the weigh in a careful manner.

Spence is indeed taller, however, Spence has a cagey, wide legged south paw stance so I don't think the height will be apparent when they are in the ring.

The size won't be an issue either, they both big.

Spence has a 72 inch reach compared to Brook's 69 inch reach, so we'll see how that affects the fight as Spence tries to work his way in with the jab and Brook tries to keep him off with his own jab.

This strikes me as the least likely scenario of all the outcomes of the fight. I know there is a consensus that Kell struggles with the weight but Spence has fought 77 rounds total in his career to Kell Brook's 184.

I can't see how anybody could possibly know how strong he will be late in the fight. But I suppose this step up happens for all fighters.

                It's a bold pick.

I think if forced to pick I'd see it the other way with Kell outlasting Spence either by stoppage or more likely by points and coming on strong late.

Size doesn't win fights skills do. Errol is more skilled and better technically and that's why he will win.
