Comments Thread For: Lemieux May Land on Canelo-Chavez, Future Foe For Canelo?

Middleweight contender David Lemieux (37-3, 33 KOs) is still be enjoying his spectacular early knockout of the year contender over Curtis Stevens from earlier this month. Lemieux is hoping to land a shot at his Golden Boy Promotions stablemate, Saul "Caenlo" Alvarez (48-1-1, 34 KOs).

David v. Canelo on Mexican Independence Day. Saunders v. GGG in Kazakhstan on 6/10/17. GGG likely to fight again in fall 2017 (Andy Lee?). Can we at least hope that GGG/Canelo is Cinco de Mayo 2018?

If GGG wants to continue to price himself out and jerk around with a fight in June then there are many options for Canelo to give a career payday to someone else in Sept. Lemieux performance against Stevens puts him in a great spot to land it. If Chavez is competitive they can rematch, they can always grab Cotto for rematch and you got Lemieux in house Golden Boy fighter. All fights will sell and make a lot of money. But the ball is in GGG's court he just needs to take what Golden Boy is offering sign now and iron out the details the moment Chavez fight is over. If not he ain't facing Canelo until 2018 and has no one to blame but his amateur promoter. He has no leverage.

I like Lemieux and don't mind him getting his shot generally, but he's definitely being positioned as a respectable opponent to avoid Golovkin. Golden Boy promotes Lemieux as well, so they get 2 cuts of the pie instead of 1, and they can rematch once or possibly twice if the results split. I think Lemieux has close to 50/50 shot. If Canelo has to lose, they'd rather it be in house instead of against the Charlos, Lara, Jacobs etc.

The only downside is that Lemieux's power could seriously shorten Canelo's career. But hey, this is box.

what about Lemieux vs Andy Lee on Canelo undercard? That would be a fun fight.

Followed by Willie winning, just like against Rosado, followed by Golden Boy suddenly forgetting that the fight was promoted as winner gets Canelo, again!

Saul 'Feet of Stone' Canelo wants nothing to do with Willie Jr.

You mean Lemieux vs Rosado 2? Doubt so. My guess Tureano Johnson, who was beating Lemieux last opponent Curtis Stevens until he got caught in the last round.
