Comments Thread For: Hearn: Ricky Burns Rejected Malignaggi For Tougher Indongo

WBA junior welterweight champion Ricky Burns had the opportunity to make a much easier defense, according to his promoter Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Sport. Burns could have face former world champion Paulie Malignaggi in a fight that would have given him more money than his upcoming bout, but he was very firm on looking to challenge himself in a unification against a tougher opponent.

Shame on Crawford if he stays at 140lb. All the talent, all the prestige and all the money is at Welterweight; a true P4P fighter would be relishing the chance to move up, not trying to hide out in Nebraska fighting overmatched opponents in boxing's weakest division.

I would've thought the last thing burns would want is to see Crawford again. No chance in hell he wins.

Literally he is head and shoulders above all guys at 140 on skill level. I mean becoming undisputed beating indingo/burns? that's insulting to the word undisputed.

How is that insulting? It's not Crawford's fault who holds the other titles. With all the many belt holders inside one division, being undisputed would be a good thing. You would think you so call boxing fans would understand that! I'm sure his team has goals they want to reach before jumping up to the next division.

Respect to 'Freeway' Ricky for taking on the dangerous African. As most who frequent these forums already know the zealous fanatical Britts would be inclined on Malignaggi even if PPV was the only choice.

Its only fair, Ricky the 'Burglar' Burns should be compensated accordingly for taking greater risk. Speaking of Floyd TBE is returning! arent you excited?!

Dominating Postol was a very good win.

However, the 140lb division is the weakest in boxing. Look at the other people he's fight in the division. Lundy? John Molina? Now they're talking about Granados, who is coming off a loss, in May, then Ricky Burns?

Does that sound like the type of competition one of the best fighters in the world should be fighting?
