Comments Thread For: 'Scared' Daniel Jacobs Says Fear of GGG Challenge is Beneficial

By Lyle Fitzsimmons - It's not a phrase you often hear from a confident title challenger. But Daniel Jacobs insists his being "scared to death" ahead of a midtown Manhattan bout with middleweight destroyer Gennady Golovkin is actually a good thing. "Who wouldn't be?" he said. "This is the biggest challenge that you can have and me saying I'm scared isn't a bad thing...

You're scared to death but can still go through the fight? Good, it's not like you're Amir Khan that if you just look at him for a moment, he goes down.

tl;dr - Jacobs is just saying he's training like a scared fighter. He's training based on the idea of Golovkin, what the media made him out to be. He says he's not scared of the fighter per se, just what the media has created, and that's what he has adapted his training to. To take on the biggest challenge of his career.

Jacobs is smart, he knows what to say when you ask him questions, he's a well-educated guy. I'm rooting for him, I want him to win real bad, but I just don't see it happening.

Every fighter is afraid of losing. I don't know if you read the entire article, specifically where Jacobs clarifies what he means. Jacobs is not afraid of the actual Golovkin, he's not afraid to get in the ring with him, Jacobs is afraid to lose and pundits have anointed GGG the un-beatable status. So Jacobs is afraid he will lose to GGG, and he feels that makes train harder.

The dude is literally named Miracle Man, and the inspiring stuff he keeps saying comes right out of a Miracle Man movie. He believes it so much, you start to wonder if it won't just happen. I'm still going with my head on this one, GGG knocking Jacobs out, but Jacobs is certainly doing and saying all the right things that would give him the best chance possible to win.

I'm rooting for Golovkin but best of luck to Jacobs, as long as the winner of this fight and the winner of Canelo/Chavez meet at either Sep 16 or May 5, 2018 I'm cool, maybe the losers of both fights can fight each other as the co-main event
