But can still make some great brackets, especially at 1 mil or more a fight.
but it doesnt make sense to pick a division where you cant get the top the guys when you can just pick a different division and get the top guys.

there may come a day where the economics make sense to try this at heavyweight, but right now it doesnt make sense at all.

It would be a mistake for them to shut their doors to anyone if they really want this to last. Like it or not, Arum has some excellent fighters on his books. Luckily Schaefer has struck a more conciliatory tone than you. But if Arum doesn't want to take part then that's on him

You can make stars out of this tournament and future title challengers

        Heavyweight

        Ortiz
        Hughie
        Chisora
        Arreola
        Parker
        Lucas
        pulev
        Whyte
        Martin
        Breazeale
        Ruiz jr
        Bellew
        Washington

Pick any 8 and it would be a good tournament and produce 1 or 2 legit contenders

I mean do you wanna be throwing $25M+ (probably +) on the these HW's? I mean Whyte is fun to watch, but throwing him $2M, $3M a fight seems like pissing money away. Washington too. Martin. Charles Martin? F#ck nah he shouldn't get $100k for his next fight lol.

Like Zero is saying HW makes sense at some future date when the bankroll is bigger, but right now it doesn't for certain divisions (HW cuz of Joshua, 160 cuz of Canelo & 147 cuz of Manny) cuz you can't include key guys cuz of how much money they currently make + a tournament without them is a limp ****. Almost every other divisions seems doable doe with this budget to me without considering all the political bs, contracts with competing en****** (like HBO if Showtime gets the US rights) & other situations that could cause problems initially until & assuming the upside is seen with this concept.

If they really want this to last, they need to kill off any threats. Arum is struggling to get TV dates. There's no need to throw him a life preserver when you could kill him off instead.

              Great points and completely agreed.

Do the tourney for divisions that don't have a PPV draw which is basically everybody except Canelo/Pac and the heavies. There are 14 other divisions to choose from.

Once fighters from other weight classes see how much is being earned, they will all want in on the action.

They're not trying to produce contenders. They're trying to produce unified champions.

I think they will kill him off bit by bit.

Haymon is a genius for throwing opponent after opponent at Canelo in order to eliminate the $5 million + payday that HBO cannot match.

He'll even Jessie Vargas didn't make over $3M against Pac so even opponent purses of the PPV draws won't make as much as they would if they entered the tourney.

Ideally you would want all the big names in a division, but obviously thats kinda unrealistic right now...

But PrideFC and bellator have had great success in building up challengers by using the tournament format.

What boxing needs badly is consistent matchmaking and this tournament is a great way to appease fans..
Fans just want good competitive fights, regardless of how highly ranked some guys are or aren't

If all the fights are on network TV you could essentially create a big name out of thin air with the winner. Who cars about the current "big names"... there's only a couple anyhow.
