  • Comments Thread For: Washington Trainer: No Problem with Stoppage Against Wilder

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama Gerald Washington's trainer didn't dispute the stoppage of Washington's fifth-round technical knockout loss to Deontay Wilder on Saturday night. Referee Michael Griffin stopped their fight at 1:45 of the fifth round, after Washington was hit with multiple flush left hooks by the hard-hitting Wilder (38-0, 37 KOs). Washington got up from a knockdown moments earlier, which was caused by Wilder's crushing right hand, but clearly was hurt when Griffin stepped in to save him from more damage.

Funny he should say that because some observers said it was a horrible stoppage.

people actually thought it was a bad stoppage? the guy was out on his feet and stumbled into the ropes after the stoppage. i guess people prefer to see him knocked out cold. give me a break he had 0% chance not to get knocked out at that moment people are just ridiculous complaining about every stoppage these days

I would've liked to have seen him try to survive the round and get his legs back in between and start working that jab again that (I felt) was winning rounds, but it was whatever. You can't say it's a bad stoppage. I think most refs would've let him continue.

my guess is they didn't seem him stumble into the ropes after the stoppage. I was watching the fight in VR and I can see dude looked ok and then all of a sudden stumbled into the ropes like a sniper shot him lol. he was out
