Comments Thread For: Should More Fighters Bet Their Purse?

By Andreas Hale - This week, Canelo Alvarez and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. agreed to bet their entire fight purses against each other for their May 6 showdown. It's something that most likely will not hold up, but the idea of two fighters so confident in their ability that they are willing to risk it all is impressive and should be practiced by more fighters...

Chavez Sr. has told the press a bet is on, but not the purse.

Canelo's guarantee is not equal to his full pay. He would probably make more off the non-guarantee revenue than the amount promised on paper.

Chavez Jr should be used in DARE classes to talk kids out of weed. It would do better than whatever theyre doing now.

Jr was too high to notice the judges scorecards for Canelo in his fights against Mayweather, Lara and cotto.

Nah I don't care about it.

I'd love for fights to have a winning purse & a losing purse doe. I'd like for boxing to be more of a sport where winning is important as far as pay goes vs like a concert or standup performance where fans are paying to see a guy over a competitive event. I want winning to be the goal not a$$e$ in seats for money in boxing.

Thats one of the important dynamics to change in boxing for the future I feel. Although I do think there is a demand to improve scoring &/or judges to the point there are less disputes over decisions & also to improve rules to make boxing as entertaining as possible.
