Comments Thread For: Jacobs' Adviser: Golovkin Will Pay on 3/18 for Canelo Negotiations

Daniel Jacobs has more than taken notice of reports this week about continuing negotiations for a Canelo Alvarez-Gennady Golovkin fight in September. Oscar De La Hoya and Golden Boy Promotions president Eric Gomez have discussed trying to make a long-awaited Alvarez-Golovkin fight this week while touring to promote the Alvarez-Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. fight May 6 in Las Vegas. Alvarez is a heavy favorite to defeat his Mexican rival in their HBO Pay-Per-View main event and insists he wants to battle Golovkin in his next bout.

If Jacobs is using that as motivation, then good for him. All athletes find different motivations to make them push themselves harder.

But this guy Connelly doesn't get it. Golovkin is a professional and is focusing on his training for Jacobs.

K2 and Golovkin's management have to plan ahead or else they will get burned, which has happened to them a couple of times.

Connelly doesn't seem to realize that waiting for Haymon to approve your next fight isn't how the business works for fighters that happen to have a promoter, a fan base, etc. They must always plan ahead (especially if they want to fight more than once a year).

Its a long shot but i think it wood be great if jacobs and chavez jnr both won their fights and put an end 2 the ggg v canelo argument. Its getting boring now. These 2 guys r trying to act like mayweather and pacquaio

If the biggest fight of your career, biggest payday, and a legacy building fight don't motivate you then you've already lost.

                Well no ****, Einstein
You have a management/promoter for a reason.. GGG doesn't sit through every negotiations instead of training..
Also, if you are fighting once or max. of twice a year then you have all the time between fights to plan your next fight..

Golovkin's team has frequently negotiated fights that happen after a scheduled one. Given the time it takes to negotiate fights these days, its the only possible way to fight 4 times a year.

Golovkin's part is to focus on the next scheduled fight only, which is what he does.

If Jacob's wins (or if any of the previous opponents won), then of course any negotiated fights for later would either be scrapped or re-negotiated, just the way it is.

If Jacobs was planning to be active, and confident of his chances of getting a W, his team should also be looking at the next fight.

Find it funny that they keep saying this despite no actual negotiations taking place between Canelo/Golovkin camps. It's just Loeffler saying "we're negotiating" and Oscar parroting "take a flat fee". There's literally been no negotiation outside of that.
