  • Comments Thread For: Roman Gonzalez vs. Naoya Inoue - Skip to the Main Course

Sometimes, it's best to get to the main course early and let the rest of the meal unfold from there. Fans of the lower weight classes know that, right now, Jr. bantamweight is about as loaded as one could ask a class to be. Between the four major titlists there is a single loss. Solid veterans surround them with fighters from lower weights are vacating titles to get into the mix.

If this fight will put more money in Gonzalez's pocket, why not? Start the negotiations right away. Who knows he may not have to go to Japan for the fight and would eventually get what he demands for the Cuadras fight. That's the way to have a leverage, have a plan B and stop crying.

I dont see the intrigue about Inoue. Japan has produced many power punching champs for decades. Dudes still to green for guys like Gonzalez & Cuadras.

Exactly. Gonzalez-Cuadras reminded me a lot of JML-Salido the first fight. If they wait much longer, the Gonzalez-Inoue fight could be ruined the way Gamboa vs JML was. I think Gonzalez should rest up, get a tuneup against a featherfisted guy in May, and then Gonzalez-Inoue in September. Co-main to the GGG-Canelo undercard.

Could you imagine? GGG-Canelo, and Inoue-Gonzalez, on the same night? The buzz that card would create would definitely reach the casual fans. Hardcores would be running through the streets telling everyone the news.

But yeah, if they make Gonzalez-Cuadras rematch or Gonzalez-Estrada next, and Gonzalez has another war against bigger guys, he could not have much left against Inoue, and then the fight will be ruined.

Who knows though? Maybe HBO wants Gonzalez to wear down first. Maybe they want Inoue to be able to win. Inoue is only 23, and has the frame to make it to bigger time weight classes like 122 or who knows maybe 126. My only question is is there a big Japanese American audience in the U.S.? Would they really want to sacrifice Gonzalez's P4P chase to help a Japanese champion at tiny weights?

I really don't have the answers to these questions, but it kind of seems like HBO wants Inoue to win if they're telling Chocolatito he has to rematch Cuadras or not fight on HBO.

By the way remember some idiots were saying HBO was racist forcing Andre Ward to fight Kovalev to make him lose or something? Well there you go HBO is also forcing Chocolatito to fight the guy who beat him up already, or not fight on HBO, so y'all can stop saying HBO only does that to black fighters.

Well Cuadras had a lot of success against Gonzalez and Inoue is bigger than Cuadras with more snap and way, way more power on his punches, and he may also be faster. Inoue is better than the usual guys they produce. His punches sound like GGG by the standards of 115 pounds. He is walking through everyone and he can box a little. And he's way bigger than Gonzalez.

Aside from the Japanese and a few hard core boxing fans ( Kellerman caugh , caugh ). I too don't yet see the intrigue for the Gonzales/Inoue fight YET . HBO 's pushing for it which is cool . But some of the unbeatable aura Chocolatito had went away in the Cuadras fight ( not to mention the Estrada fight ). People jump on Canelo for calling out GGG then relinquishing . How about the rematch Chocolatito promised Cuadras ? Or Estrada ( no promise ) . I think Mr. Honda out in Teiken promotions should give the people the fight they want . Gonzales / Cuadras 1 = candidate for FOTY . Plus Cuadras is charasmatic as hell . He can build the fight on his trash talk alone .

Cuadras is by far a better boxer & i doubt if Inoue is faster than cuadras maybe by only a single punch. Cuardras definitely has the better combos & legs. Personally i think Gonzalez turns Inoue all night taking away his power.
