  • Comments Thread For: Duva on Sullivan Barrera: HBO Return, Possible Title Shot in Store

Sullivan Barrera probably won't land a light heavyweight title shot in his next fight. That doesn't mean the hard-hitting contender from Cuba won't benefit from his impressive knockout against Vyacheslav Shabranskyy on Friday night in Indio, California. Coming off a unanimous-decision defeat to IBF/WBA/WBO light heavyweight champion Andre Ward that HBO broadcast March 26 from Oakland, California, Barrera bounced back by dropping Ukraine's Shabranskyy three times on his way winning by seventh-round knockout.

Barrera vs. Smith is one of the more logical match-ups.

If (and I do mean "if") Kov beat Ward in the rematch, then I would be all for Kov vs Barrera. Both are pretty big LHWs and would be a good match. I think Kov would KO him though. The styles would result in someone getting KO'd.

With that being said, I like that Duva will try to put him against other contenders. There are a lot of fighters at LHW that he could go up against to work his way up to the top. I completely agree with the this concept of fighting contenders if the champions won't take on the challenges as seen in many other divisions. Unifications should be a regular occurrence, but these guys don't want to fight each other. 147 is taking forever to make that happen. The number of belts aren't going to go back to 1 anytime soon, but you would think these guys would have more of a chip on their shoulder and go after other titleholders in their division.

Yeah how about setting up Barrera with Joe Smith or try go get a "name" on his resume such as Pascal. Though, I think Pascal still beats him at this point.

I see at least 5 or 6 fighters in front of him for a title shot ... Duva is so delusional it's not even funny... Always been though so no surprise... She believes her own fictional wet dreams and spreads them around...

Barrera could fight any of the Haymon HWs, however, its Duva who only expects her fighters to fight on HBO. She rather beg HBO for a date for her fighters and have them make little money then maximize their purse somewhere else. Kovalev got 2 mil for Ward, got peanuts to fight Hopkins, took less to fight Pascal and expected Stevenson to fight Kovalev and split the 3-4 mil HBO was going to pay for the fight. Kovalev would have got paid more if Duva let him fight Stevenson anywhere else other than HBO. Kovalev-Stevenson would have been huge in Quebec and both fighters would have made more money than what HBO was offering.
