Golden Boy Promotions President Eric Gomez spoke to BoxingScene.com about the ongoing negotiations to finalize a deal for an all-Mexican pay-per-view showdown between Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez (48-1-1, 34KOs) and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (49-2-1, 32KOs) for the lucrative Cinco De Mayo weekend date of May 6.

It's not clear how much the ongoing litigation between Golden Boy and Al Haymon (who advises Chavez Jr.) effects things.
    It didn't stop Canelo/Khan (unfortunately).

Gomez made it clear that a Chavez Jr fight in May for 'Canelo' does not preclude him from facing middleweight king Gennady 'GGG' Golovkin later on in 2017.
If Canelo/Chavez does 1 mill ppv and it's a fun fight, Oscar will be like -"Triple Who"?

Chavez then ggg could be a good year for Canelo. Bring charlo on in December and you have your fighter of he year if and only if he wins then all

This guys is proud of watching a circuist act as long as it does great PPV, instead of being proud of the top guys in their division fighting each other. Ill bet you cant wait for Mayweather vs Mcgregor.

This negotiation shows how full of Sh-t, Canelo and GBP really are....where is all the BS about Canelo not being a natural middleweight, he has to develop into 160... all types of statements from Canelo and ODLH about developing into a middleweight, but now if its not GGG , Canelo can go from 155 to 165, but 160 was not an option because his body was still growing...so pathetic, anyone who believed that crap. If Canelo fights JCC Jr. at 165 everyone should realize he ain't fighting GGG ever....who gives WBC belts back? just scared puwsseez.

If he could pull off that trifecta next year, he would definitely be fighter of the year.

165 is for jr to make, Canelo can come in at 100 for all he cares long as they don't come above 165 it don't matter. Canelo will not weigh 165 he will probably be anywhere from 158-161 at the most in my opinion

Question that I have is what if Chavez Jr doesn't make weight then what happens?

It's a main event on a pay per view. This wouldn't be like an undercard fighter not making weight then you scramble to find a replacement.

Golden Boy needs to throughly think this through because this could be a disaster.

Canelo is a smart mofo, it's tough to pin point your weight to be at a specific amount and combine that with keeping your power and stamina. If you ever had to cut weight for any type of competition wether it'd be wrestling, boxing, mma anything you'd know what I'm talking about. He is going to aim to come in close to 160 as he can without going over. And see how his body responds, he basically has a five pound cusion to his use in case something is not right with putting on the weight from super welter to middle. He getting ready for ggg believe that brotha
