That was my point about the Saunders $3 mil offer. It wasn't because Saunders is good or the fight would sell, it was about increasing his profile. This fight does the same here in the US where the Canelo fight will be. I think some GGG fans forget this.I agree with you that fighting Danny Jacobs would be a great investment into GGG's career. Overpaying Jacobs would be like a marketing investment, so GGG could parade the accomplishment.
That said I don't see K2 being unreasonable with Jacobs. I imagine they're offering Jacobs $2mill and the pot is probably something like $6mill, that's a 33/67 split.
We won't know any details til next week, but I don't see what's holding up the deal. We know it has to be HBO, MSG - those are standard A-side/champ calls, especially when Jacobs doesn't have strong drawing power at Barclay or Showtime. HBO did recently give the green light for Klitschko to fight Joshua on Showtime, so if Haymon does win the bid, I don't see Golovkin having to vacate as it would damage his image, which is pretty important to building the Canelo fight. At the same time I don't see Showtime investing a ton of money into a fight (even at a slight profit), to potentially build up Golovkin who'll then go right back to HBO a slightly bigger star.
All of which I'm saying is, I don't see Danny Jacob's leverage for a much better deal.
I would hate to think Team Jacobs actions are all about getting GGG to vacate but they very well could be doing this. It is no secret that I in the very short past I would've championed this move given I felt that HBO not letting Haymon fighters on was BS.
Now, if this is what is happening, I am totally against it as I type this. While I am not a GGG fan persay, I want to see him in with the best in the division because I like the sport more than I am a fan or hater of any one fighter.
I also agree that a fight in MSG is much preferred over the Barclays.
Maybe the compromise is putting it on ESPN. They have a partnership with HBO and Haymon, they could pay a bigger site fee to get both paid, and the added exposure would greatly benefit both, but especially the winner.Comment

I didnt say thats what he should do, I simply answered a question as to what UK fights would be financially feasible for GGG
Now with that being said, Im not 100% convinced that he will be able to fulfill his unification goal. From the historical perspective I hope he can, but with the nonsense from Saunders, Jacobs taking 6 months to negotiate a mandatory defense, an IBF mando coming up in the next few months and a potential WBC mando as well as the Canelo fight, I'm just not that optimistic that they can keep it all together.
and if they did ultimately get Degale in the next year or 2, it needs to be at 168Comment

Bingo
I'm like which one is it. Is GGG a star or not.
If he's a star, he can do 300k numbers or better against Jacobs. If he can't, then he doesn't deserve what he's asking against Canelo. Plain and simple.
you have BADLY missed the point
if lil'G cannot generate more than 300k buys..... then why should Canelo pay him more than 10mil?
I have never heard you clowns answer that questionComment

Mister "154-168" already killed 2 HUGE fights over the weight
besides, Golovkin himself stated that he is not willing to fight above middleweight..... "I am 160, small middleweight"..... so I don't know why folks are even suggesting Degale
and they already low-balled Saunders
outside of Jacobs, I don't think they have 1 good optionComment

Both of these guys are just like you. No numbers to back it up. Just an opinion. Show me with numbers how you come to the conclusion that it'll do one million buys. I showed you using numbers how it wouldn't reach one million.Chavez: To Sell 1 Million on PPV - Canelo Definitely Needs Golovkin!
"The Cinnamon tree so that it sells a million houses needs Golovkin definitely. There has to be a complement. The fight of 'Male' Camacho with me was a complement, the Whitaker fight with me was a complement", he said 'The Big Mexican Champion'.
the fight would surely eclipse the coveted 1 million PPV-buy mark.

It's my belief too... it will sell like that. Every Canelo fan will buy the fight. Every Golovkin fan will buy the fight. Many hardcore fans will buy the fight and casuals too.Comment

Hopefully that number has gone up since negotiations or maybe they've increased Jacobs percentages on the back end
I'm really wondering if the reason Loeffler extended the negotiations is because if the negotiation details were made public after a failed negotiation w/ Jacobs, the public outcry would've been massive against Loeffler. Much more than it has ever been before.
Hopefully all these details come out shortlyLast edited by Chollo Vista; 12-14-2016, 05:45 PM.Comment
