Comments Thread For: One Vote For a Prolonged Bernard Hopkins Swan Song

By Lyle Fitzsimmons - I confess. I'd never been the biggest Bernard Hopkins fan. In fact, it wasn't all that long ago -- while slaving for another boxing master -- that I penned a column titled "Goodbye Bernard, Old Buddy" in the run-up to the old man's (he was a month shy of 41 at the time) loss to Jermain Taylor in the second of their middleweight title fights in December 2005...

      Better hope Hopkins loses.

If he wins his ego will blow up and he'll call out Adonis Stevenson.

          Hopkins is an ATG, but...

You have to admire Hopkin's longevity, his work ethic and his accomplishments. His defensive skills are amazing and he's definitely a unique fighter.
But I'm going to have to agree with Ray Mancini who said, "Hopkins is an ATG but I wouldn't cross the street to see him fight."
What Ray meant was Bernard will use any tactic known to man to "take the fight, out of the fight".
Hopkins is a master at neutralizing the opposition.
His wins are educational, like calculus and just about as boring.
As for Hopkins beating Jones, it's true Bernard beat a faded Roy, but a prime Jones beat Hopkins in an earlier (and boring) fight.
