Comments Thread For: Felix Verdejo Still WBO Mandatory, Expected Back in First Quarter

During the late summer as plans were being made for Felix Verdejo to face WBO lightweight belt-holder Terry Flanagan on the Manny Pacquiao-Jessie Vargas pay-per-view undercard on November 5th, the highly touted Puerto Rican prospect got into a motorcycle accident that scuttled those plans and sidelined him for the rest of 2016.

Nice kid BUT nothing special about him.
Anyone who thinks he is the "next great fighter from the island" is in for a huge disappointment!!!

Completely agree. He is a clean cut, respectful young man but I have not seen anything to back up all the 'superstar in the making' talk I've heard. He does have good fundamental skills and was brilliant as an amateur (see his close fight with Lomachenko in the Olympics) but he has also struggled with a couple of fighters he should have beaten easily (Ivan Najera & Jose Luis Rodriguez). I suspected it could be he's cutting too much weight so it will be very interesting to see how he looks against a physically strong fighter like Flanagan if that fight ever happens. I think his camp may have to scuttle all that talk about winning titles at 130 and 135 and think about jumping up to 140 soon.

Agreed. He's simply a much superior athlete to Flanagan. Then he'll have one or two easy title defences and after that Loma will take him to school

Hope he takes a tune up fight. He needs to click into the next gear. I will add or change trainers. The talent is there but there is something missing as of right now!

The "missing" thing is that "special" fighter everyone wants him to be.

Its just not there!! Not his fault.

Heck he will be lucky if he turns out to be half as good as Wilfredo Benitez.

                  Nice kid though.
