  • Comments Thread For: Golovkin vs. Jacobs: Loeffler Updates on Negotiations, WBA Order

Negotiations are on-going for a fight between WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (36-0, 33KOs) and his mandatory challenger Daniel Jacobs (32-1, 29KOs). The hope is that should this fight comes to fruition in mid-March in New York.

This guy is clueless. He's not making any sense.

When asked why this process had taken so long, Loffler explained - "It's always a touchy situation, Gennady has made so many title defenses and Jacobs had won the regular title and made, I think, four title defenses."
What does GGG title defenses have to do with why negotiations are taking so long?

"They had asked for a purse split change and we supported the WBA's position that Golovkin had made so many title defenses," said Loeffler, of the sanctioning body's decision to keep the 75-25 split.
If you agree with the purse split why did you ask the WBA for a two week extension that has turned into a damn near two month extension when you were only one day away from the purse bid?

So is Loeffler optimistic that a deal can be consummated?

"I think so, I really do,'' he said, while at the Palm Restaurant in Los Angeles, where a media gathering was held of WBO cruiserweight titlist, Oleksander Usyk.

"I mean every conversation I've had with Al Haymon it's always been positive, there's never been, 'Well, lets take a fight here in-between' and the WBA has been very firm that they want [that fight] and Gennady could've petitioned to fight somebody else in December but he wanted to go straight into the Jacobs fight"

"It took longer, the negotiations, and that's why it got pushed back to next year. But I firmly believe both fighters want the fight and I think that's a big enough fight so that both sides can work out the financial details where both sides are happy."
He just said a whole lot of nothing. If talks are going so well why hasn't the fight been made? This isn't May-Pac. This isn't even Kovalev-Ward. When you asked for the extension in order to avoid the purse bid you were saying the same thing back then as you're saying now. Nothing has changed

I keep telling ya'll this guy is a snake. He's got used car salesman written all over him. Ya'll gonna finally see for yourself one day. Something about this guy isn't right.

They have 7 days to present the WBA with contracts. Then what happens after that?

On Wednesday afternoon Tom Loeffler revealed - "the WBA sent out a letter today giving us a seven-day deadline to have contracts in for the Jacobs fight."

            Seven more days....

These people must be negotiating like it's a game of chess, with rule of one move per day. I really hope this fight comes off. Good news is that atleast Hassan N'Dam is fighting Blanco for the interim belt in a few weeks, so if it's not Jacobs, it'll be N'Dam which ain't to bad, probably more competitive than Jacobs.

Loeffler is widely considered one of the better guys around the sport, easy to deal with. GGG and k2 Spent his whole career making concessions just to land the fights they have gotten, just because they finally take a stand doesn't makmake him a snake.

I wonder who knows more about negotiating a boxing match, you are Loeffler? If that question needs answering, then I don't need a response.

Title defenses add value to a fighter, which dictates their worth, which impacts negotiations. I guess it goes back to the above question.

He never said he wanted the purse split, only that he agreed with the ruling by WBA, which meant they were not going to force a 60/40 split.

Is it me or are people just ignoring the fact Golovkin was the one to turn down an interim fight in order to get Jacobs in the ring?
