Kathy Duva, chief executive officer for New Jersey-based Main Events, told BoxingScene.com on Wednesday that HBO Sports has an April date for a pay-per-view card. Depending on various financial factors, it's also possible that a Ward-Kovalev rematch could air live on HBO.

April sounds good, PPV or not. I think waiting until June or November is a bad idea because too much could happen between now and then that could ruin the rematch. Plus I can't see how Duva could prevent Ward from taking another fight solely because HBO can't provide and earlier date. I really would like this fight to happen in April so the winner can face Stevenson in the fall. That would allow Ward and/or Kovalev to get in 3 fights for the year. 1 against each other, another one in the summer against a soft touch or bottom of the top ten, then a fight against Stevenson for all the marbles in November or early December. This would force other promoters and TV outlets to up the competition level of fights in 2017
