  • Comments Thread For: Walters: I Won't Let Lomachenko Off Hook Like Kovalev With Ward

LAS VEGAS Nicholas Walters appreciated plenty about Sergey Kovalev's performance Saturday night. But Kovalev made one major mistake, according to Walters, that cost the previously unbeaten Russian knockout artist the biggest fight of his career. When Kovalev had Andre Ward down in the second round, Walters says he should've finished the newly crowned IBF, WBA and WBO light heavyweight champion.

That's the spirit! With him going in to the fight thinking this way should make it a barn-burner. We'll see?

Walters is gonna need a lucky punch otherwise he is gonna get schooled.
Also Ward should get right back in the gym as soon as he recovers and star getting lots of rounds in from sparring European style punchers to make up for the lost time and prepare for the rematch while Kovalev should get right now in the gym and work on his cardio in order to be able to give the Maidana treatment to Ward in the rematch. He will need to throw at least 60 power punches per round in order to KO Ward. I think the rematch will be better than last saturday´s fight which i think Kova won but at least i made 100 bucks off a bet that Ward would get it.

The Axe man is here to chop up this HBO hype job. Ooh yeah! I can't wait to see stuttering Roy and pretentious Max's faces after Loma has been sliced and diced.

There is no such thing as lucky punch in Boxing. What is the aim, to land a punch so how is it lucky, its like having sex, it does not just slip you have to push it in

You can't hit what you can't see. I like Walters but this is easier said than done because Lomachenko is no mug, he is intelligent, is fast, good reflexes and can punch too. Walters will need more than power to win this fight.

Of course not, but i think he should take the Broner aproach that Maidana had in that fight. With that i mean, dont try to box, he has the power to really hurt him but he cant outbox him clearly enough to get those crooked judges to give him the fight as we saw. That´s why i say Kovalev should try to go and throw (if he can) 100 power punches per round and lots of combinations, non stop agresiveness on Ward to stop him, like the first two rounds but more brutal. If not, Ward will do the same. And Ward should get some of those european style power punchers to spar A LOT and make up for the lost time with all that inactivity.
