Cosign...it was obvious watching the fight that he was expending unnecessary energy and it was wearing him down.I'm glad JDJ recognized that Kovalev was trying to hard to outwrestle Ward.
In really came down to Kovalev wearing down from all the wrestling and fading thus giving ward the opportunity to come back. Ward had nothing from the outside. I still though Kov won but he made a huge mistake of engaging Ward in a wrestling match where Ward is comfortable and more accustomed.Comment

They scored it the way they did because of where the fight took place, and what nation they represent.Comment

aboutfkntime
the fact that Jackson thinks Kovalev dominated the fight is going to be a big problem for Sergey.....
..... and the fact that Jackson cannot understand why the judges scored they way they did, is also going to be a problem for Sergey
unless Jackson is a LOT smarter than you are, Kovalev is fk'd in the rematchComment

Close as hell, I edged it to Kovalev but I got no problem with people who saw it the other way. What I saw who were almost perfectly evenly matched fighters giving it their all and not giving one inch to each other either mentally or physically. Even all the clinching and wrestling was fascinating - there was a lot of work going on in there, and just as Ward was able to neutralise some of Kovalevs outside game Kovalev had much more success than I thought taking away Wards inside game. Very much looking forward to the rematch.Comment

Rnd 5 was a Ward round by not wanting an even round Ward edged it .Rewatched the fight. Kovalev won rounds 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, and 10 clearly, already winning the fight with a knockdown, 6-6.
Round 5 was even in punches but Kovalev was the effective aggressor, breaking the even round in his direction. That makes it 7-5 Kovalev, plus a knockdown.
Rounds 9, 11, and 12 were all swing rounds where Ward did better work inside, and outhustled Kovalev a little bit, but where Kovalev landed the better head shots, and landed with more power overall.
If you give Kovalev just one of the swing rounds, it's 8-4 Kovalev. Give him two and it's 9-3. So JDJ was right on point. I had it 8-4. It was actually an amazing performance by Kovalev to win so decisively even with a referee who allowed Ward to use all his rule-bending tricks without even a warning. Kovalev overcame all the odds and surprised a lot of people on NSB, which is why you see some people hedging not wanting to admit what happened. I'd say this earned Kovalev #1 pound for pound except they both looked a little past their primes to me. This is the problem with waiting until guys are 32, or 33, years old. The stamina goes and you have a low activity fight. Kovalev threw less than 500 punches. Ward only threw 350. So pound for pound wise, I would probably just keep them where they were before the fight.
So as they say if one part of your story is a lie then the whole lot must be , so to speak .Comment

Kov never wore down from the pinning of the rushing Ward. Thats why he clearly win the 12th rd and the fight as a whole.Comment

It is funny as hell to note that a large percentage of the "Kovalev really won" crew, are posters who insist that Pacquiao beat Marquez in the first 3 fights, because that is what the record books say.....
The Bottom Line:
Ward won for this reason..... because he has Kovalev's belts
Sergey needs to focus his energy on the rematch, and so do you guys.Comment
