Through a 38-fight unbeaten streak Britain’s Ricky “The Hitman” Hatton had to endure the slings and arrows of outraged criticism. A British phenomenon with a huge and unblemished record? Must be a mixture of hype and good matchmaking said the naysayers amongst the boxing literati, umpteen defences of Hatton’s largely inconsequential WBU title further evidenced this apparent reticence by the Hitman to take out a contract on a live opponent. Ricky always seems to be great at doing interviews, great charisma and a bit of blue-collar charm.
He should do well here in the States because of his fighting style and his personality, of course, as long as he is promoted the correct way.
One thing with the interview, he mentioned that Floyd was all for the fight in Manchester, then changed his mind after the Tszyu fight, basically indicating the reason was because Floyd found out that he had talent. I don't know about that: I think Floyd always knew Ricky had talent, maybe not as much as he thought before the Tszyu fight, but I tend to believe Floyd when he said he would only fight Ricky in the States because of the unfair tactics Ricky used and was allowed to use against Tszyu.
Floyd wants to box, not wrestle. -
Who can blame Floyd? The heart of boxing is in the United States, if Ricky wants to go down as one of the "greats," he has to do it in the States.Comment
