  • Comments Thread For: Parker's Promoter Explains Why They Picked Ruiz, Not Joshua

    IT seemed that New Zealand boxing hero Joseph Parker was destined to challenge Anthony Joshua for his IBF heavyweight title until the Tyson Fury conundrum shook the heavyweight to the core. With Fury having relinquished his three remaining major WBO, IBO and WBA title belts following his stripping of the IBF which is now in hands of Joshua, a new wave of negotiations started, resulting to new fights being made that were previously not on the agenda before the British abdicated his throne.

    Ug... Everything seems to revolve around dodging purse bids these days...

    Best part;
    But the Duco Promotion boss knows that it will not be plain sailing to get the Hayemaker in the ring especially as the Brit is now operating in his own terms. “I think Haye is articulately positioning himself for a world title shot without taking a risky fight. He will probably get a soft opponent to push him towards a world title shot but ultimately he will need to fight a live body."

      I'm surprised that no one talks about the heavy earthquake in NZ. Is the fight in danger?

          Fight should be fine. Earthquake happened in the Canterbury region (lower third of the South Island), although it was felt all the way up to Auckland (upper third of the North Island, about 750kms from Canterbury).

          I'm about 120km's south of Auckland, so what's that..630km from the earthquake? And the shaking around midnight still woke me up. Intense, but besides a few powercuts and stuff, no drama up here.

          Although, a few lives lost down there, which is terrible - they're still recovering from the massive one a few years ago.

              Yep, nailed it - North end of Hamilton. Hopefully I can make it up to the Parker fight...

              The earthquake was bigger than ChCh - I think unofficial reports have this one as a 7.5 magnitude, 15km deep. The ChCh was a 5.4 but it was only 8km deep, hence the crazy damage. All I can think is..how incredibly lucky that this one was as deep as it was, otherwise the damage could have been catastrophic.

              Although, looking at some pictures that have emerged, it ain't a pretty sight. When will Canterbury finally catch a break? Poor buggers.

              Interesting time for you to have been in NZ buddy! It was a weird time for all.

                Good guess eh? Hamilton's pretty fun, met some interesting characters there.

                  It was a bit like that! My first thought this morning was for my wife's family - they live in South Canterbury. Fortunately, everyone is safe.

                  Great guess - Hamilton is a sweet place. Big enough to not be a hick town, but not big enough to be full of yuppies. And we're no longer the STD capital of New Zealand, win!!

                  Where abouts are you from buddy? NZ's doors are open to good people with some boxing knowledge.
