Former WBC superlightweight champion Pedro "Perico" Fernandez has passed away in Zaragoza (Spain) at the age of 64. The reason of death is undisclosed but Fernandez had been under medical care since 2012. Fernandez went 82-28-15 in a career that lasted from 1972 through 1987. He became WBC champion in 1974 but lost the title to Saensak Muangsurin the year after. Before and after his stint as world champ Fernandez also held the EBU title. In 1977 Fernandez lost a rematch to Muangsurin and also lost fights to the likes of Jim Watt, Jo Kimpuani and Jorgen Hansen.
