I can see boxing heading towards headgear. There's no way around it. Football and hockey players wear helmets, so I can see boxers, who make a living getting punched in the face, will soon be required to wear headgear. Then you look at boxers who've suffered from Parkinson's, concussions, coma's, slurred speech, etc. Even look at Hasim Rahman vs Evander Holifield. I was yelling at the tv for them to stop the fight. He didn't appear to be hurt or getting beat up badly, but the knot on his head was getting bigger each round. That situation could of went wrong and who knows the long term effects of that particular fight. The bottom line is, boxers shouldn't have to get in the ring worrying about the possibility of dying. All the salutes, warm wishes and praise in the world does not being these fighters back.

The thing is there is a school of thought that headgear causes more actual brain damage because of the extra weight and lack of peripheral vision hence the Olympics removing them.I did notice this was only for men however.I don't know enough about the brain in any case. But something has to change. It's gotten a lot better, but there's still dangerous stuff going on.Did you see David Prices last opponent. That kind of mismatch is going to really go wrong one day,and boxing won't have any defence to answer with.

Wow, I didn't know that the headgear may cause more damage. But i always wondered about the peripheral vision. Yes, I saw that fight and sometimes matchmakers are good in making evenly matched fights and sometimes they're not. Sometimes that fighter's team believes that they are ready to step up when they're not and sometimes its just the fighter trying to make some extra money, knowing good in well that they have no chance in winning. You really don't know what a mismatch is until they get in the ring. Look at the Ghost's last fight... He literally fought a cab driver and lost. That was supposed to be a cakewalk and it ended up being an embarrassing loss. Hopefully they figure it out, because guys shouldn't be dying in the ring for our entertainment. I don't think nothing changes until either there is a significant increase in deaths or a female boxer dies in the ring.

Footballers & hockey players don't wear padded gloves. Head guards would kill pro boxing!
