Comments Thread For: Mike Tyson Says His Ring Career is Unknown To Today's Youth

There was a time when Mike Tyson was one of the most recognizable athletes on the planet. Now? Not so much. There's a pretty clear generational line among those who know Tyson as one of the best boxers of the late 20th century and those who don't. Those who don't recognize Tyson for what he did in the ring as a boxing champion see him as something completely different: the guy from "The Hangover" with the face tattoo

Tysons peak was 25-30 years ago. You don't expect a random 12 year old kid to know who he is. A 12 year old in 1990 would know who he is tho.

I kinda agree, i feel like everyone who is in a boxing gym, has seen Mike Tyson and knows how good he was, he surely isn't the huge sports figure he was years ago, but he clearly is a big figure in boxing.

Michael Spinks?, Frank Bruno?, Larry Holmes?, Donovan Ruddock?, the youngest heavyweight champion of all time?, the former UNDISPUTED champion?, the man who beat almost every fighter in the squad of lazy heavyweights who were "the next Ali's"? (Tubbs, Berbick, Biggs, Mathis, Tillis, Williams, Tucker).
Why people can't give a fighter the credit he deserves?, seems like people can only overrate and underrate fighters, i hate when people overrates Mike Tyson's resume and talk about him like he was unbeatable, but he surely was a freak of the nature and really awesome fighter, wanna watch hype jobs?
Go watch Francisco Bojado, Ricardo Williams, Howard Davis, all the talented heavies that Tyson destroyed and even freaking Canelo Alvarez, good fighters that never reached his capabilities or never had such capabilities.

Not sure how old you are? I am 46 and in the mid to late 80s I was in high school and to put it simply Tyson beat everyone who was put in front of him. He was fighting almost every month leading up to his title shot and everyone saw the KO's...He beat the former champs of the day like Thomas, and Weaver, and Berbick, and Holmes, 2 against Razor...sorry you missed those? When he got out of jail in early 90s he was a different fighter. If you are from that era who didn't want to play the Mike Tyson Nintendo game?
